Brussels, July 18, 2025 — A joint investigation by ARIJ, Bridges Investigations, and the Guardian has sparked a wave of concern in the European Parliament over the Israeli military’s use of attack dogs against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. The exposé, titled “Israel’s Fangs Are Devouring Palestinians,” revealed documented cases of Israeli forces deploying dogs in civilian areas, leading to serious injuries and trauma, including among children.
The investigation, published on 30 May 2025, included first-hand testimonies, visual evidence, and medical reports detailing attacks by military dogs during home raids and arrests. In response, several Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) raised formal questions to the European Commission, urging a review of the EU’s relationship with Israel in light of potential human rights violations.
In a written question submitted on July 10, 2025, MEPs questioned the Commission on its position regarding the use of dogs “as weapons of war,” asking whether such practices align with the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which is contingent on respect for human rights.
The investigation continues to prompt international outcry, with observers citing it as a powerful example of how collaborative journalism can drive political accountability and expose systemic abuse.
